The tallest of the Wave family, award-winning Tidal Wave petunias create an extremely full plant covered with an amazing number of blooms. Plants first grow outward, then up, and finally in both directions to make an outstanding, shrublike shape that continues to hold its form all season. An excellent landscape performer with terrific Botrytis tolerance and quick recovery from rain, the plants resist lodging so they won’t fall open and expose a bare centre like other
Tidal Wave is well-suited to large containers, or sold green in 1801 or similar pack size. The growth habit is based on how closely the plants are placed in the garden – the closer the spacing, the taller the plants. Spaced a minimum of 12 in./30 cm apart, Tidal Wave forms a dense, mounded hedge, 16 to 22 in./40 to 55 cm tall. Grown in a restricted space with support, they will grow an extra 2 to 3 ft./60 to 90 cm upward, like a vine. The stiff stems help to maintain the habit through the season. Spaced up to 24 in./60 cm apart in the garden, Tidal Wave makes a floriferous groundcover, spreading up to 5 ft./1.5 m across per plant. 2 to 2.5 in. (5 to 6 cm) flower size.
Flowers are silvery white to very light lavender with dark purple veins. Blooms are slightly larger on vigorous plants that have a denser habit. Flowering is 1 to 2 weeks later than Cherry and Hot Pink.
