U.S. Utility Patent Granted For Beacon™ Impatiens

The new I. walleriana series from PanAmerican Seed has unique genetic resistance to Impatiens downy mildew and is protected under a U.S. utility patent.

WEST CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, June 2019: PanAmerican Seed® is thrilled to announce that a United States utility patent was granted for its new Beacon™ Impatiens having a unique form of disease resistance to Impatiens downy mildew. US 10,285,362 covers all 6 colors and two mixes of Beacon Impatiens walleriana. Additional patent applications are pending.

“Since its official debut earlier this year, the excitement around Beacon Impatiens has been outstanding,” says Lisa Lacy, Global Product Manager for PanAmerican Seed, and a key team member of the Beacon Impatiens launch. “Receiving this patent underscores confidence in this product, and we are proud to be able to bring such an important flower class back to market.”
