Unrooted Cuttings

Unrooted Cuttings (URC) are vegetative plant segments cut cleanly from mother stock and shipped through a cold chain. They will ultimately grow into a liner and beautiful finished plant. URCs have not been stuck in soil to generate a root base. These cuttings are propagated and grown by greenhouses or by root-and-sell operations to sell as liner supply.

Traditional URCs are a low input cost for the grower. URC vegetative classes are wide and varied – from Annuals, Perennials, Tropicals and more. Contact your Ball ColorLink® or Sales Representative for details on ordering URCs through Ball Seed®.

Next-Gen URC Forms

Advancements in unrooted cuttings have increased efficiencies. Callus Cuttings have a shorter crop time than URCs – they cut rooting time in half reducing propagation time. They require less heat for lower energy costs, plus the faster root development improves branching for better-quality plants.

In addition, mechanized advancements like AutoStix™ Strip Cuttings help automate the sticking process, saving growers on scheduled labor costs through investments in machinery. They are offered in the same high-quality URC and Callus options, and the strips are biodegradable to minimize waste.
